Call for Papers
Submissions for 2010 are now closed: If you'd like to submit a talk for STANZ in August 2011 you can do so now in the same way as outlined below:
You are invited to submit a presentation to be a part of STANZ 2010, the region's premier conference on software testing!
STANZ has a practical, rather than an academic focus, so the search is on for presentations that provide insights into testing practice from Australian and New Zealand-based testing professionals and organisations.
If you are a local testing professional with a story to tell, why not consider presenting at STANZ 2010?
The benefits
• Raise your profile and that of your organisation within the wider testing community.
• Free registration for the two days of the conference.
• Hotel accommodation (room only; applies if you are away from home).
• Reasonable travel costs.
• Networking opportunities with overseas keynote speakers.
What's more, you're certain to learn a lot, be better for the experience and find that you're presentation becomes a valuable resource for you and your organisation.
About the presentation you could deliver:
Presentations, which are typically 45-50 minutes in duration, might discuss the application of methods or tools, management issues around software testing, quality assurance or the particular challenges of your testing arena (e.g. testing within CMMi, testing on a small budget, testing in an agile environment).
STANZ looks to accept submissions from individuals within private organisations and government agencies. If you have a local story to tell about software testing or software quality assurance, please come forward and submit a presentation outline to be considered for STANZ 2010 by email to iainj(at)softed.com
Format of your presentation:
The majority of STANZ speakers use PowerPoint slides and supply a copy of those slides for reproduction in the STANZ participant manual. Alternatively, you might like to supply a written article and use a PowerPoint presentation when speaking. A further acceptable format would be a practical exercise or some form of practical work.
Selection criteria:
A wide range of criteria are considered in deciding whether or not a presentation will be accepted, but here are some things STANZ holds dear:
• Fresh talks. STANZ is always on the look-out for presentations that have not been presented elsewhere. If you have an idea you want to explore, let us know.
• Innovation/uniqueness. Doing what no-one else is, blending methods, new or early adopter, lets hear about it and how it's going.
• Practicality. How you do it or what you did. Presentations that focus on actual projects - case studies if you like - demonstrating what you did and why, issues that arose and how you solved them, benefits derived.
• Tools. If you have a strong, in- depth knowledge of a particular tool and could share some of the tips and techniques to making it work better for others in general or in a particular circumstance, we would like to consider it as a presentation.
• Interactive presentations. Talks that involve discussion with the audience, exercises to illustrate points or how-to-dos, are sought-after; we learn more by listening and doing than listening alone.
Getting your presentation considered:
If you think you might be interested, you are welcome to register your interest (no commitment at this stage) with Software Education's Conference Manager, Iain Jenkins. Please email him at iainj(at)softed.com. You are also welcome to call Iain to discuss possible involvement (call 1800 145 952 from Australia; 0800 268 773 from New Zealand).
You'll need to supply an outline (abstract) of your presentation (300-400 words) and a copy of your CV/bio (300-400 words). Please also include who you feel the presentation is aimed at (e.g. Test Managers, Team Leads, Testers, Analysts) and the level of experience at which it's aimed.
Acceptance (or otherwise) of your presentation will be advised as soon as possible. You then need to have the full presentation to Software Education no later than 1 July, 2010.
STANZ is committed to including local stories in the programme, and looks forward to your involvement. Email your presentation outline now to iainj(at)softed.com.
